Thomas Hayward acts as the auctioneer for the bi-annual event which has become a campus tradition for UC Davis. Hayward said, “At UC Davis, you can expect to see more bicycles than automobiles, with 15,000 to 20,000 bicycles on campus each day.”

There are over 400 bikes available for auction at the UC Davis Pavillion Parking Structure. The bikes are abandoned or unclaimed bicycles left around campus in a variety of conditions. For this auction, there are cruisers, mountain bikes, road bikes, BMX and even a few kids’ bikes.

The bike auction not only clears out TAPS’ unclaimed bike storage, but also gives college students an opportunity to buy campus transportation cheap. Most of the bikes’ sold prices rest in the $20-$100 range.

The viewing begins at 8 a.m. and runs until the start of the auction at 9 a.m. The auction lasts until all bikes are sold. The forms of payment accepted include cash, check, Visa or Mastercard. Proper I.D. is required for all payments except cash.

For more information about the event, call 530-752-BIKE or visit the TAPS website. To learn more about the October event where Thomas Hayward acted as auctioneer, read this post from Davis Life Magazine.
